Iranian State Media Confirms Death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei After Attacks

Iranian state media has officially announced that supreme Leader Ayatollah ali Khamenei has died, confirming earlier reports that emerged amid major military strikes on the country. The announcement was made on Iranian state television early on March 1, 2026, and marks a dramatic and historic development in the ongoing conflict involving iran and Western powers.

According to the state media report, Khamenei was declared to have “reached martyrdom,” a term used by Iranian officials to describe his death, and the government has declared 40 days of national mourning in his honor. Authorities also announced seven days of public holidays to allow for official mourning ceremonies and religious observances across the nation.

The announcement did not go into extensive detail about the exact circumstances of his death, but it follows widespread international reports that he was killed during coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel, which launched extensive strikes targeting key leadership and strategic sites in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

Khamenei, who had led iran since 1989 and was one of the most powerful figures in the country’s political and religious hierarchy, leaves behind a leadership vacuum. The process to appoint a new supreme Leader is now expected to begin, though Iran’s constitution provides that interim leadership may be handled by senior state officials until a successor is chosen.

This confirmation from Iranian state media comes amid rapidly evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle east and carries significant implications for regional stability and global diplomacy.
