New Delhi: In a move aimed at boosting farmers’ income, the Central Government on friday announced a significant hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra for the 2026 season.

Key Highlights of the MSP Hike

Milling Copra:

The MSP for milling copra has been increased by 445, bringing the new rate to 12,027 per quintal.

Objective:

The increase is intended to ensure better returns for coconut farmers.

It also supports the growing demand for coconut-based products, including copra oil, desiccated coconut, and other derivatives.

Impact on Farmers:

Coconut growers, especially in Kerala, tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, are expected to benefit from improved profitability.

The move is likely to encourage higher production and quality output, strengthening India’s position in the global coconut market.

Government’s Support Measures

Along with the MSP hike, authorities are promoting modern farming techniques, better processing methods, and market linkages to maximize farmers’ income.

This step is part of a broader strategy to boost agricultural growth and rural livelihoods.

Takeaway

The MSP hike is a welcome relief for coconut farmers, providing them with financial security amid rising input costs and encouraging sustainable production practices.
