Rift in the Opposition Alliance in Jammu & Kashmir ..?!
Tensions are rising over seat-sharing ahead of the by-elections and rajya sabha polls.
These developments follow similar alliance rifts in bihar and Maharashtra.
🔹 Clash Over Nagrota assembly Seat
The Nagrota seat became vacant after the death of bjp mla Devendra Singh Rana.
NC suggested congress should contest from Nagrota, but congress rejected the offer.
Congress announced it will contest the by-election independently, focusing on defeating the BJP.
In response, NC has announced Shamim Begum as its candidate for Nagrota.
Voting for the Nagrota and Budgam by-elections will take place on november 11.
🔹 Disagreement on rajya sabha Seat Allocation
Congress and NC contested last year’s assembly elections together.
For the upcoming rajya sabha elections on october 24, congress demanded one winnable seat.
NC only offered the fourth, weaker seat, which congress refused.
This has further deepened the cracks in the alliance.
🔹 Infighting Within the National Conference
Internal rift within NC is also surfacing.
NC mp Agha Ruhullah has refused to campaign for his uncle, party candidate Agha Mahmood.
Ruhullah has criticized Omar Abdullah’s government, especially the recent reservation policy changes, calling them anti-merit.
🔹 Alliance Cracks Across Other States
Similar alliance issues are seen in:
Bihar: Grand Alliance allies are preparing for friendly contests in several seats.
Maharashtra: congress has announced it will go solo in local body elections.
🔹 Summary
The Congress-NC alliance is on the verge of collapse.
Disputes over seat-sharing, strategy, and internal dissent threaten to weaken the opposition front ahead of key elections.
