Why do Small farmers data-face a lot of challenges?Small farmers in india have to deal with many problems other than farming. Due to these problems, their income is low and livelihood becomes difficult. Less rainfall, sudden floods or excessive heat, all these affect the crop and farmers suffer losses.
Infestation of pests and spread of diseases in crops is also a big problem for farmers. This spoils their crop. Many times, due to poor quality of soil, lack of water or excessive use of pesticides, the crop yield decreases. Many farmers need money for farming and they are forced to take loans from local moneylenders at high interest. This increases the burden of debt on them.
Many times, after harvesting the crop, there is a problem in its transportation and storage, due to which the crop gets spoiled. Sometimes up to 40% of the crop gets wasted. Farmers do not get the right price for selling their crop. Many times the farmers' crops do not meet the market standards, due to which they data-face difficulty in selling their crops. If these problems are solved, the income of farmers can increase and their lives can be better.
