Are people getting the benefits of government schemes? The news agency spoke to senior journalist and economics expert Mohammad Shoaib Ahmed. He said, 'At one time rajiv gandhi had said that when he sends one rupee from the centre, only 15 paise reaches the common people. Today there has been some improvement in this situation. But the situation has not improved completely. Look at any government scheme, the beneficiary knows that he has to give this much percentage to the department. The beneficiary knows that if he does not give it to the department, then he will not get the benefit of the scheme next time. There is a 40% cut in the MNREGA scheme in Bihar. If the government spends 100 rupees, then the beneficiary gets only 60 rupees.'He said, "SBI's research report states that there is no doubt that infrastructure has developed in villages. Today electricity has reached every home. But the condition of rural roads is still bad. Roads break down in a single rain. This means that quality is being compromised here too."New definition of poverty: Have the standards changed?A new poverty line has been set in india to measure poverty and inequality. In 2011-12, the poverty line in villages was Rs 816 per month, while in cities it was Rs 1000. But now in 2023-24, this limit has increased to Rs 1632 for villages and Rs 1944 for cities. This change has been made keeping in mindthe inflation and other economic factors in the last decade. The government says that this will enable poverty and inequality to be measured more accurately.
