India benefits from the demand for coffee coming from Europe!
Tea is usually exported from india to all the countries of the world, but now the country has set a new record in terms of coffee exports as well. By the month of november of the current financial year (2024-25), the total export of coffee has crossed the one billion dollar mark for the first time. Data from the Center for Monitoring indian Economy (CMIE) has revealed that between april and november, coffee exports reached $ 1146.9 million, showing an increase of up to 29 percent over last year.
Robusta coffee in highest demand
Due to high demand for Robusta coffee from europe, its price saw a jump. In fact, the european union has brought a new law under the Forest Destruction Regulation (EUDR). Under this, goods which are produced by damaging forests such as coffee, cocoa, rubber, palm oil can no longer be sold in europe because forests are cut down on a large scale for the production or cultivation of these things.
With the implementation of this new rule, businessmen will have to provide proof before production that they are not damaging the forests. The purpose of this new rule of the european Council is to stop deforestation. In such a situation, even before this new rule, buyers of coffee from europe are increasing their stock, so the demand for coffee from indian exports has increased.
india is flourishing in coffee export
Of the total amount of coffee produced worldwide, more than 40 percent is coffee of Robusta beans. This year alone, its prices saw a tremendous jump of up to 63 percent because their supply from countries like vietnam and brazil has decreased. Whereas india is flourishing in terms of coffee export. coffee is being exported in large quantities from india to the european union, Belgium, germany and Italy.
