Reportedly these days onion farmers across the country are in trouble, as the price of onions is falling drastically day by day. Due to this, the resentment of farmers including different organizations is increasing. Meanwhile, on Monday, minister Nitesh Rane was addressing the people at the Paduka Darshan program of Saint Nivruttinath Maharaj in Satana taluk of Nashik district. Meanwhile, suddenly a farmer reached the stage and garlanded Rane with onions. minister Nitesh Rane said from the stage, "Stop the farmer and listen to his problem." After this, when the farmer tried to speak on the mic, the policemen did not let him speak and took him into custody.

Previously on Thursday, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had urged the central government to remove the 20 percent export duty on onions. He had written a letter to Union Commerce minister Piyush Goyal and talked about the onion farmers of Nashik. Pawar said that the arrival of the new crop has led to an overflow of onions in the markets. Farmers are having to sell their produce at an average price of Rs 2,400 per quintal.

Moreover let us tell you that the average wholesale rate of onion in the country's largest wholesale onion market Lasalgaon Nashik has fallen by 50 percent in a month. While the prices were Rs 4000 per quintal till last month, on sunday (22 December) it came down to Rs 2000 per quintal. The price of onion has fallen due to the arrival of new Kharif crop. Traders say that the rate is expected to fall further due to increased arrival of new onions in the major onion producing areas of Maharashtra, gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, retail prices of onion have come down from ₹ 60 per kg to ₹ 40 per kg. onion traders say that the onions of Kharif crop cannot be stored for a long time due to high moisture. Therefore, farmers bring it to the market as soon as they dig it out. This year, good and timely monsoon rains have boosted the production of onions and other horticultural crops like tomatoes and potatoes.
