Shaktikanta Das is the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank
Reportedly the term of the current Reserve Bank's Shaktikanta Das is ending on december 10. After this, the market of speculation is hot about the new governor. Due to Shaktikanta Das meeting Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on saturday evening, it is being discussed that the current governor can get extension of service. If this happens, Shaktikanta Das will become the longest serving RBI governor after Benegal Rama Rao, who held this post for seven and a half years from 1949 to 1957.
Meanwhile this meeting of Shaktikanta Das in North Block took place a day after the monetary policy meeting. The meeting between Das and Sitharaman lasted for about half an hour. Shaktidas Das has been the governor of the Reserve bank for six years. No information has been revealed yet about any possible extension after december 10, whether it happens or not.
Earlier Shaktikanta Das took over as the 25th governor on december 12, 2018, his term was extended in 2021. Prior to this, he was a member of the 15th Finance Commission and has served as India's G20 Sherpa. Shaktikanta Das, an indian Administrative service officer, has held key positions in the central and state governments in areas such as finance, tax administration, industry and infrastructure. During his tenure in the Finance Ministry, he has played a role in preparing eight Union Budgets.
