Will voting be held on 8 seats instead of 9 in UP?
The hearing on the appeals of Samajwadi Party's outgoing mla Irfan Solanki from Sisamau seat of kanpur and the UP government has been completed. After the hearing on the matter of stay of sentence and grant of bail, the court has reserved its judgment. The court reserved the decision after the arguments of both the sides were completed.
The decision has been reserved on the application of Irfan Solanki, brother Rizwan Solanki and another accused and the appeal of the UP government. Irfan Solanki and others had filed an appeal for stay of 7 years sentence and grant of bail. The UP government has demanded that the 7-year sentence be converted into life imprisonment, while Irfan Solanki and other people who have been sentenced have demanded that the sentence be commuted.
A plea has also been made for grant of bail and stay of sentence till the final decision of the court comes. The hearing on the issue of stay of sentence and bail was going on in the high court for the last four days. Recently, the supreme court had ordered the high court to dispose of the appeal within 10 days.
Seven years' sentence was given
The Solanki brothers were sentenced to seven years' imprisonment by the mp mla Special court in the case of burning down a woman's house in Kanpur. The division bench of Justice Rajiv Gupta and Justice Surendra Singh I has reserved the verdict.
The verdict from the high court may come next week. If the high court stays the sentence of Irfan Solanki, his membership of the Legislative assembly will be restored and the by-election on the Sisamau seat will also be stopped. After the High Court's judgment was reserved, the suspense over the by-election of the Sisamau seat has increased. Whether the by-election will be stopped or continue will depend on the decision of the High Court. If the verdict comes in favor of Irfan Solanki, then voting will take place on only 8 seats in the elections to be held on november 20.
