Sri Lankan Navy arrests 8 Tamil Nadu fishermen

Eight tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing in their territorial waters. Eight fishermen from Rameswaram fishing harbor in a mechanized boat had ventured into the sea on monday morning. When they were fishing between Dhanushkodi and Talaimannar, the Sri Lankan Navy patrolling the area surrounded the fishermen.
  Eight people were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and taken to the Mannar Naval Camp for allegedly fishing in their territorial waters. The eight fishermen who were apprehended will be handed over to the Fisheries Department officials today after the completion of preliminary interrogation.
In this situation, the fishermen have demanded that the central and state governments should take steps to release those arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.   Two days ago, 11 fishermen from Nagapattinam were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended up to eight tamil Nadu fisherman on monday night after they were suspected of breaching the maritime data-border.
 
According to Sri Lankan fisheries officials, the fishermen were fishing late on monday in the seas between Mullaitheevu and Neduntheevu. They were from the Pudukottai area.
 
Jesuraj, a prominent fisherman from Rameshwaram, stated that the federal and state governments have to get involved in the matter and support the fishing community in order to ensure their continued existence.
