Karnataka: Will congress spring surprise or bjp hold its lead?

Today at eight in the morning, the lok sabha election of 2024 vote counting started. With exit polls predicting a majority for the national democratic alliance (NDA), led by the bharatiya janata party (BJP), all eyes are on the karnataka lok sabha results. The bjp is expected to win 23–26 of the 28 lok sabha seats available in karnataka, while the india bloc—which includes the state's ruling Congress—could win 3–7 seats, according to the News18 Mega Exit Poll. The poll predicts that the nda will secure an overwhelming 60% of the vote.

In karnataka, the nda and the india bloc were the two main rival alliances. While the Janata Dal (Secular) party [JD(S)] fielded three candidates, the bulk of the NDA's candidates are from the bjp, numbering twenty-five. In the meantime, the indian national congress (INC) is the party of all 28 candidates running for the india bloc.

Important candidates in the fray

Prime Ministers pralhad joshi (Dharwad) and Bhagawant Khuba (Bidar), former chief ministers Basavaraj Bommai (Haveri) and jagadish Shettar (Belagavi), and BJP's tejasvi surya (Bangalore South) are among the prominent contenders.

Congressman Shreyas patel Gowda was matched against banned JDS leader Prajwal Revanna in Hassan. Due to suspected sexual offences, he was taken into custody at Bengaluru Airport. Voter tallying for the lok sabha elections of 2024 gets underway. Today is the day that contenders for 542 of the 543 parliamentary seats will find out their fate. First to count will be the postal ballots.
