Arvind Kejriwal placed in judicial custody till june 5...

Arvind kejriwal, the chief minister of delhi, was placed under judicial custody until june 5 by the Rouse Avenue court in delhi on sunday because of an ongoing investigation into money laundering related to the liquor policy matter. The aam aadmi party (AAP) leader turned himself in the tihar jail officials after his 21-day interim bail period expired, and the court took this action shortly after. Following his surrender, kejriwal appeared virtually before magistrate sanjeev Aggarwal.

Arvind kejriwal was free on temporary release on May 20 when the Enforcement Directorate filed a request to extend his judicial custody for an additional 14 days. The plea was opposed by Arvind Kejriwal's attorneys, rishikesh Kumar and vivek Jain, who stated that the supreme court was considering a challenge to his arrest in this matter. Kejriwal's appeal for an extension of interim bail was turned down by the supreme Court's office last month, stating that he was free to go to the lower court. Subsequently, the AAP chief petitioned the delhi court to have his provisional bail extended. He also requested standard bail.

Kejriwal's request for temporary bail was rejected by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday, arguing that the lower court could not change the supreme Court's order for him to turn himself in on june 2. Additionally, the agency asserted that Kejriwal would need to turn himself in before requesting temporary bail.

Earlier this week, the AAP president asserted that he required further time out of jail to go through a series of tests in order to rule out the potential of a major illness. Since being imprisoned on march 21, he claimed to have dropped six kilograms of weight, which could be an indication of a serious illness. In court, the agency asserted that he had gained one kilogram of weight. It also charged him with deceiving the judge. It stated that when kejriwal was free on temporary bail, he could have taken the exams. The Rouse Avenue court announced that it would provide a decision on june 5th, following its hearing of the agency's arguments.
