Union Ministry of Defense has said that the indian Navy is on standby as Cyclone Rimal is about to make landfall

A strong low pressure area over the Bay of bengal has strengthened into a low pressure area and turned into a storm. The storm has been named Rimal. Notably, this is the first pre-monsoon storm to form in the Bay of bengal this season. Rimal means 'sand' in Arabic. The country of oman bears this name.

Cyclone Rimal, which has formed in the Bay of bengal, will intensify into a severe storm and cross the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast tonight, the india Meteorological Department said. Cyclone Rimal is expected to make landfall between West Bengal's Sagar Islands and Bangladesh's Kebupara by midnight today, with sustained winds of 135 kmph, the Meteorological Department said.

Various flight and train services have been canceled due to the storm. red alert and orange alert have been issued for some districts of West Bengal. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 12 teams on standby. 5 more teams have been kept on standby in anticipation of the storm's landfall in West Bengal. Rescue and relief teams of the indian Army and indian Navy have also been put on standby.

In this situation, the Union Ministry of Defense has said that the indian Navy is ready as Cyclone Rimal is about to cross the coast. The indian Navy is said to be on alert following the existing Standard Precautions (SOP) to enhance humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the wake of Cyclone Rimal.

Elaborate preparations are being made by the Eastern Naval Headquarters and the situation is being closely monitored at the Naval Headquarters. The indian Navy has prepared two ships carrying relief and medical supplies to ensure the safety and welfare of the people. Additionally, indian Navy aircraft including sea King and Setak helicopters and Tornier aircraft are also on standby.

Special diving teams are on standby in kolkata to provide immediate assistance. And diving teams with necessary safety equipment are ready in Visakhapatnam. Two flood relief teams have been deployed in kolkata with relief and medical supplies. Also, two flood relief teams each from Visakhapatnam and Chilka are said to be ready.
