Big blow to this journalism university of Bhopal, calling it illegal…

Madhya Pradesh high court has canceled the appointment of Sanjay Dwivedi and Pavitra Srivastava, reader of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism university, Bhopal, considering it against the rules. The high court, after a long hearing, found that the criteria for constituting the selection committee in the appointment process were not followed as per the university Act. The head of the Department of mass Communication and Public Relations and advertisement was not included in the selection committee and interview panel, which was necessary. Both were appointed in 2009. In its order, the single bench of Justice vivek Aggarwal of the high court directed the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism university to issue a fresh advertisement and conduct interviews for recruitment to the post of Reader in the Department of Journalism and mass Communication. Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, living in Mohali, Punjab, had filed a petition in 2015 challenging the appointment of both the readers. Advocate Nityanand Mishra presented the case on behalf of the petitioner. He said that the university had issued an advertisement for recruitment in various departments on 11 april 2008.

The petitioner's lawyer gave this argument

During the hearing in the high court, it was argued that Section 33(2) (d) of the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism university Act 1990 was not followed. Under this, it was necessary to include the heads of the concerned departments in the selection committee. The court was told that professor Davinder Kaur Uppal, the then Chairperson of the Department of Communication, and Shashikant Shukla, Chairperson of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, were present in the university, but still, they were not included. The court canceled the appointments, finding them unconstitutional.

The court made harsh remarks

Making a scathing comment in this matter, the court said that not following the rules shows that the then Vice Chancellor and the Registrar were playing the game of favoritism to oblige their own people. Approval cannot be given to appointment in violation of rules. A completely corrupt process has been adopted in the appointment of both the readers.
