Phase 1 of the 2024 lok sabha elections Updates: Voter Turnout Up to 9.7% as of 9 a.m.
2024 lok sabha Polls: Over 15% of voters have cast ballots by 10 a.m. in Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and West Bengal.

Today saw the opening of polls in 21 states and Union territories for the 18th lok sabha elections. Over 9.7% of voters nationwide had cast ballots by 10 a.m. elections are being held today for seats in the following states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. At almost 2 lakh polling places, approximately 16.63 crore voters—more than 8 crore males and women combined—will cast their ballots.

In the first round of the contest are Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, nitin gadkari, and arjun Ram Meghwal. Today's poll candidates are gaurav gogoi of the Congress, kanimozhi of the DMK, and K annamalai of the BJP, who is the head of tamil Nadu. The opposition india alliance is hoping for a comeback, while the BJP-led NDA is aiming for a larger majority. Of the 102 seats up for grabs on Friday, the UPA had won 45 and the nda 41 in 2019. As part of the delimitation process, six of these seats have been redrew. Seven stages of general elections will take place between april 19 and june 1 to choose the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. On june 4, the results will be made public.
