The Katchatheevu Island issue has once again become a focal point of political debate, with prime minister Narendra Modi targeting the congress and the DMK-led government in tamil Nadu over their handling of the matter.

PM Modi criticized the DMK, accusing them of failing to protect the interests of tamil Nadu despite their rhetoric. He alleged that the DMK, along with the congress, prioritized their political gains over the welfare of the people of tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted a news report suggesting that the then chief minister m. karunanidhi had agreed to the agreement regarding Katchatheevu Island, despite the DMK's public opposition to it. This revelation, according to PM Modi, exposed the double standards of the DMK.

In addition to targeting the DMK, PM Modi also criticized the congress, stating that weakening India's unity, integrity, and interests had been the modus operandi of the congress for the past 75 years. He even alleged that the first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was willing to cede Katchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka.

This has sparked a war of words between the bjp and the congress, with tamil Nadu bjp President K. annamalai accusing Nehru's government of being open to the idea of giving away Katchatheevu Island. The issue has once again brought to the forefront the contentious history surrounding the island and its implications for the fishermen of tamil Nadu.
