Gwalior-Guna and Scindia family...know the history…

Influential members of the former royal Scindia family of gwalior have entered the electoral fray as candidates of different political parties, contesting separate elections from their stronghold. Now Union minister jyotiraditya scindia has also taken this tradition forward by filing his nomination as bjp candidate from the Guna lok sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh.

jyotiraditya scindia, who represents the current generation of the family in madhya pradesh politics, is back in the fray as a congress candidate after five years of unexpectedly losing from Guna, but this time the BJP's election symbol will be lotus next to his name on the EVM. jyotiraditya scindia (53) is the grandson of bjp founder Vijaya Raje Scindia and son of former Union minister late Madhavrao Scindia. Guna lok sabha seat is part of Scindia's stronghold, which is spread across eight assembly seats in Guna, Shivpuri, and ashok Nagar districts.

After losing its government in madhya pradesh exactly four years ago, congress is trying to settle scores with jyotiraditya scindia in the election field, but it has not yet announced the name of its candidate from Guna. It was an electoral setback for the former gwalior royal when the Union Civil Aviation minister data-faced defeat in 2019 at the hands of bjp candidate and his old loyalist K P Yadav by a margin of about 1.26 lakh votes.

jyotiraditya scindia is again contesting elections in 2024, but this time he is contesting the elections under the banner of the Bharatiya Janata Party. bjp is the political home of his aunt and former rajasthan Chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former madhya pradesh minister Yashodhara Raje. The history of the Guna lok sabha constituency shows that the members of the Scindia family have never contested their first and last elections from the same party. Union Minister's grandmother Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia contested her first election from this seat in 1957 on a congress ticket and won. He contested elections as a Swatantra party candidate in 1967 and then contested elections from bjp in 1989.
