"Worrying" US opinion against CAA..!?
The US is closely monitoring India's implementation of the citizenship amendment act and says it is concerned. The US has reacted against the implementation of the citizenship amendment act (CAA) in India. The US has expressed concern over the announcement of the citizenship amendment act in India. It also said that it is closely monitoring the implementation of this law. On the one hand opposition parties are protesting against the citizenship amendment act and on the other hand the lok sabha elections are soon to be held, this view of the US is seen as important. A US State Department spokesperson told reporters yesterday (Thursday) that "we are concerned about the march 11 implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act" in India. Responding to a question, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, "We are closely monitoring how this law is implemented. Freedom of religion and equal treatment of all communities under the law are fundamental democratic principles."
It is noteworthy that the United Nations has also criticized the implementation of caa in india and civil rights groups have also expressed concern about this law. As the Citizenship (Amendment) Act has generated a lot of debate across the country, Union home minister amit shah in an interview with ANI said, "I have spoken at least 41 minutes on various platforms about the caa and the minorities of the country need not be afraid of it.
There is no provision in this Act to deprive any citizen of his rights. The purpose of the caa is to grant indian citizenship to non-Muslim minorities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who came to india from Pakistan, bangladesh and afghanistan before 31 december 2014. Their suffering can be brought to an end under this law," he said. Union minister Rajnath Singh has said that people are being misled regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and that this Act will not take away the citizenship of anyone living in India.
