Maldives leaning towards China..!? indian troops withdraw..!?
According to reports in the Maldivian media, 25 indian troops stationed in the Attal area south of Attu had reportedly left before march 10. It has been reported that india has started withdrawing the indian Air Force that was engaged in surveillance in the maldives following the order of the President of the country, Mohammad Muisu. According to reports in the Maldivian media, 25 indian troops stationed in the Attal area south of Attu had reportedly left before march 10. maldives President Mohammed Muisu, who took office in september last year, is considered to have a pro-China stance. As soon as he took office as the President, he announced that he would withdraw the indian forces patrolling the sea data-border of Maldives. Following talks with india in this regard, both sides agreed to withdraw 89 indian troops and their auxiliaries from the Maldivian data-border by May 10.
There has been no official announcement from the Maldivian or indian authorities regarding the initiation of the withdrawal of indian forces from the Maldives. The maldives government signed a military aid agreement with china last week as the decision to withdraw indian troops was taken. The Ministry of Defense of maldives said that the agreement is to foster stronger bilateral relations and china will provide military training to the maldives under the agreement.
India's relationship with the maldives began to sour only after Muisu won the presidential election in september 2023. The Maldivian government wants to break ties with india and gain China's support. As an expression of this, maldives President Muisu traveled to china last January. He signed agreements in the infrastructure, energy, marine, and agriculture sectors. China's diplomatic ties with the maldives and sri lanka reflect China's growing dominance in the indian Ocean.
