Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde laid the foundation of the mumbai Metro Line-12 (Kalyan-Taloja) at Dombivli’s Premier Ground on Sunday. The Kalyan-Taloja stretch (Line-12) is the extension of the mumbai Metro line 5, the Orange line. The extension will reduce travel time between Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai. This expansion was proposed to provide hassle-free access to the upcoming Navi mumbai International Airport.

Metro Line-12 will pass through the kalyan Lok Sabha seat, the constituency held by cm Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde. Once it becomes operational the Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja line will benefit the commuters from Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, badlapur Thane, Navi mumbai and Panvel. Travel time between kalyan and Taloja will be reduced to 45 minutes.

According to report, the integration of Metro Line-12 with Navi mumbai Metro Line is also proposed at Navi mumbai Metro station to ensure smooth connectivity between Navi mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli. The mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to operate 3-coach or 6-coach trains on this line depending on the number of commuters and demand. The extended route passes through City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas, therefore, these neighbourhoods will have better opportunities for development in the future.
