According to sources there will be a change of government after the general elections scheduled in April-May and the new government that will be formed will present the complete budget for the entire year. As is clear from the name itself, this budget is interim and its purpose is to ensure the arrangement of government revenue and expenditure till the time the new lok sabha and the new government are formed. goes. Generally it is for two months, although if necessary its duration can be longer.

Meanwhile the word 'budget' has not been used in our Constitution. Article 112 of the Constitution mentions "Annual Financial Statement". Budget is the popular name of this "annual financial statement". One thing needs to be understood. There are provisions related to budget in the Constitution in the form of "Annual Financial Statement", but the concept of interim budget is not a part of the Constitution.

Whenever it is an election year, the current government presents an interim budget, so that the new government gets a chance to determine the estimates of revenue and expenditure for the entire year. This is the reason why the interim budget is not discussed in parliament like the normal budget. The estimates of revenue and expenditure related to this are approved by the parliament without adequate discussion.
