Moreover lok sabha elections were held for the first time on Mirzapur seat in 1957. After that, congress party leaders won the elections five times, while Samajwadi party won this seat four times. BSP has also won elections from this seat twice. nda has been in possession of this seat since 2014. Apna Dal Sonelal's national president anupriya patel is the mp from this seat. In such a situation, if the name of naresh Uttam patel is approved then his competition may be with Anupriya Patel. Phoolan Devi also became mp from Samajwadi party in 1996 and 1999. anupriya patel had got 5,91,564 votes in the year 2019, while SP stood second, SP's Ramcharitra Nishad had got 3,59,556 votes here. The total population of Mirzapur lok sabha is about 25 lakhs, of which about 13 lakhs are males and about 12 lakhs are females. This seat is considered a Kurmi dominated seat, that is why akhilesh yadav wants his party's state president and Kurmi leader naresh Uttam patel to contest elections from here.
