According to officials, the central government is going to study the feasibility of constructing a 23-km-long bridge across the sea to connect tamil Nadu's Dhanushkodi and Sri Lanka's Thalaimannar.
Also, “The new 23 km long Ramar sethu Bridge, the Setusamutram project connecting India's Dhanushkodi through Sri Lanka's Pak Strait, will reduce transport costs by 50 percent and help connect the island of Sri Lanka. The project will be implemented by the National Highways Authority of india (NHAI). Officials said the economic and technical agreement concluded six months ago has led to development of Rs 40,000 crore, which includes projects including new railway lines and the ram sethu Bridge. They also said that investigations related to this will start soon.
In this context, india is considering the construction of a historic 23 km sea bridge connecting tamil Nadu's Dhanushkodi to Sri Lanka's Thalaimannar. 'Rama Sethu' is mentioned in many tamil texts and inscriptions/copper plates of tamil kings since the Sangam period. The Sethupatis of Ramanathapuram held this place in high esteem and all their grants were 'registered' in this holy place.
