Why did congress and AAP exert so much effort to elect a mayor?

The identity of the incoming chandigarh mayor is still up in the air. The Municipal Corporation office was scheduled to host the mayor's race on Thursday, january 18, but it was postponed because the presiding officer became unwell. Here, leaders of the AAP and congress have raised a stink because the mayor's election was not held on schedule. These leaders claim that the presiding officer pushed back the elections, citing illness, at the BJP's request. Additionally, the AAP filed a motion with the High Court, where a hearing is scheduled for this Saturday, january 20. Every year, the chandigarh Municipal Corporation holds elections for mayor. In terms of numbers, AAP and congress are ahead this time.

AAP and congress have united to form a formidable front in the race for mayor. In an attempt to win the elections, the party has assigned rajya sabha MP Raghav Chaddha to chandigarh, while former Union minister Pawan Basal is leading the congress side. The chandigarh Municipal Corporation is under observation by the bjp high leadership as well. In an instance such as this, it is critical to understand why the opposing parties have mobilized so strongly for the Municipal Corporation election.
