An agreement has been reached between aam aadmi party and congress to contest the chandigarh Mayor election in alliance. Sources gave this information on Monday. Sources said that under the arrangement, AAP will contest for the mayor's seat, while congress will contest for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. This development has come at a time when AAP and congress, both constituents of the 'India' alliance of opposition parties, are holding talks on seat sharing for this year's lok sabha elections. AAP and congress have decided to form an alliance for the chandigarh Mayor elections on january 18. This is going to be a two-way contest and analysts believe that this will give both the parties an edge over BJP. bjp has 14 councilors in the thirty-five member chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The party also has an ex-officio member, MP, who has the right to vote. AAP has 13 councilors and congress has seven. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has one councilor in the House.
