As the deadline for the lok sabha elections approaches, the political landscape in the country is gearing up for a fierce battle between the two major alliances led by the national parties. The national democratic alliance (NDA), spearheaded by the bharatiya janata party (BJP), is known for its emphasis on Hindutva, while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by the indian national congress stands firm on its secular stance.

In the upcoming elections, the congress is making a conscious effort to reclaim its secular identity, diverging from its soft approach towards Hindutva in the 2019 elections. The Congress's commitment to secularism is highlighted by its response to the invitation for the inauguration of the ayodhya Ram Mandir, where party leaders refrained from attending.

This decision was taken despite criticism of the bjp government's handling of the event. Recent election results in karnataka and telangana have seen a shift in public perception, with minorities favouring the congress as a true secularist party. The congress believes that the influence of the bjp is waning, particularly among neutral intellectuals and students, who are distancing themselves from the BJP's brand of Hindutva.

Congress leader rahul Gandhi's initiatives, such as the rahul Bharat Jodo yatra and the ongoing Bharat Nyaya yatra, have garnered support from secularists. The congress accuses the central government of violating citizens' rights in Manipur, making it the focal point of the second phase of rahul Gandhi's Yatra. In contrast to the previous strategy of competing for Hindutva votes, the congress is steadfast in its commitment to face the 2024 elections based on its core philosophy of secularism. As the congress plays the secular card against the BJP's Hindutva narrative, the outcome of the 2024 elections remains a topic of keen interest.
