Aam Aadmi party (AAP) has maintained its stand on contesting elections in alliance with congress in five states including Punjab. The party said that the discussions so far have been positive. Party's delhi unit convenor Gopal Rai gave this information on Tuesday. AAP and congress, part of the opposition alliance 'India', on monday discussed seat sharing for the upcoming lok sabha elections.

'There is no discussion about any particular seat in the states'

Gopal Rai said, “Talks (on seat sharing) have started between the two parties. We have maintained our stand on contesting elections in alliance in delhi, Punjab, Haryana, goa and Gujarat. There have been positive discussions so far." Asked on which seats the party wants to contest, the AAP leader said there was "no discussion" on any particular seat in these states.

Open debate between AAP and congress in Punjab

AAP is in power in delhi and Punjab. congress units in both the states are against any kind of agreement with AAP. In Punjab, there is open rhetoric about contesting elections in alliance between congress and AAP.

'There will be discussion regarding the seat in the next meeting'

Gopal Rai said, “We want to contest elections in alliance. There will be discussion regarding the seat in the next meeting. When we are in alliance we have to take an official stand. Regarding this (official stand), both the parties will make their preparations and then discuss. congress and AAP on monday discussed the possibilities of seat sharing for lok sabha elections in Punjab, delhi and other states. They decided to meet again to finalize the arrangement between the two major components of the 'India' alliance.
