Recently the allahabad high court on monday stayed the hearing of the criminal case going on in a gautam Buddha nagar court against Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief and rajya sabha member Jayant Chaudhary. Jayant Chaudhary is accused of violating the code of conduct and Covid rules during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2022. This case was registered in Dadri police station of Greater Noida.

Perhaps Jayant Chaudhary is the son of former cabinet minister Ajit Singh and grandson of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. Hearing Jayant Choudhary's petition, Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh directed the state government's counsel to file its reply within four weeks and asked the petitioner's counsel to file its rejoinder within two weeks. The court will hear the case next after six weeks. In the current case, a case was registered against former Uttar Pradesh chief minister akhilesh yadav, RLD chief Jayant Choudhary and others in 2022 alleging that they violated the election code of conduct and Covid norms. The charge sheet in the case was filed on 12 october 2022.

Petitioner's lawyer Imran Ullah argued that his client (Jayant) was going with Akhilesh Yadav. Another bench of the high court has already stayed the criminal case against akhilesh yadav in this case. Ullah said that moreover, Jayant's role was limited as he was only present in the bus carrying Akhilesh Yadav. In such cases related to violation of guidelines, complaint can be made only by the person whose order has been violated. This was not done in this case and the FIR was registered directly. He also underlined that all the witnesses in this case are policemen whose statements are similar, hence they cannot be trusted.
