Stop animal sacrifice in Kokatanur fair: President Dayanand Swamiji..!?
From january 6 to january 11, Kokatanur Ellammadevi Jatra of Athani Taluk will be held. Lakhs of devotees from places like karnataka, Maharashtra, goa etc. will come to this caste and offer pooja and religious offerings to the goddess. During this time thousands of devotees will sacrifice thousands of animals like goat, sheep, chicken, kona in the name of god and religion in the form of Harake. He urged the district administration, Athani taluk administration and police department to completely prevent pani sacrifice during the fair and on other days and prevent the animals from entering the fair environment.
Karnataka Prohibition of Animal Sacrifice Act, 1959- By law in karnataka, in the name of God-Religion, in the form of Harake, Jatra environments, religious gatherings, farm fields, public area, temple inside-outside, courtyard, surrounding areas, roads and roadsides and behind and in front of processions. No one anywhere is prohibited to sacrifice or kill any animal of any age like sheep, fowl, cow, goat etc. It is an offense punishable by law. In this context, the karnataka State high court said that wherever animal sacrifice is found in the state or if information is received that animal sacrifice is going to be done, it should be strictly prevented and those who have violated the law should be punished according to law and extensive campaign activities should be carried out for the prevention of animal sacrifice. In this direction, he explained that organizations such as the World Animal Welfare Council should be used to create awareness.
In Kokatanur Ellammadevi Jatra of Athani Taluk and on other days, precautionary measures should be taken to ensure that no animal sacrifice or killing takes place and proper arrangements should be made to completely prevent animal sacrifice. He warned that there will be contempt of court if the district administration government and the police department do not take action to prevent animal sacrifice.
Ahimsa Praindaya-adhyatma in surrounding villages including Kokatanur under the leadership of World Animal Welfare Board and Animal Sacrifice Abolition Awareness Mahasangha and Basava dharma Janapith to persuade the devotees and Jatra and temple committee to give up animal sacrifice, violence to life, perform sattvic non-violent worship activities and earn the grace of Goddess. sandesh Yatra will be conducted to create awareness among the devotees about the prohibition of animal sacrifice. Dayananda Swamiji, President of World Animal Welfare Board, Basava dharma Jnanpeeth and Animal Sacrifice Eradication Awareness Mahasangha said that appropriate police protection should be provided for this yatra.
