Nam Tamilar party chief coordinator Seeman has demanded that the Mancholai mountain road in tirunelveli district should be repaired on a war-time basis and bus facilities should be provided as soon as possible. In a statement released by Nam Tamilar party Chief Coordinator Seeman, "It is heartbreaking that the people of the area have been put to great hardship as the mountain road leading to Mancholai near Ambasamudram in tirunelveli district has been completely damaged and the bus service has been stopped. The tamil Nadu government's laxity in repairing the roads in the south district affected by heavy rain is strongly condemned.

Many parts of tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts have been affected due to the recent unprecedented heavy rains in the southern districts. The roads of thousands of villages have been damaged and the livelihood of the people has been severely affected. In particular, approximately 3000 people live in Mancholai, a major tourist destination in the Western Ghats, and the surrounding tea plantation areas of Kakachi, Uthu, and Uthuvetti, and thousands of laborers travel to that area every day for plantation work.

In this case, the main hill road from Manimuthar to Mancholai, which has been full of potholes for the past 10 years, has been completely damaged due to recent heavy rains and public transport has been completely stopped. Due to this, the Mancholai hill area has been cut off and isolated from other parts of tirunelveli district, all the public such as school and college going students, hospital going patients, children, pregnant women and old people from Mancholai areas have been suffering for more than 20 days and the workers going to tea plantation work have also lost their livelihood.

Also, even the common people cannot afford to travel because of the very high toll of 200 to 400 rupees charged in a single vehicle operated on behalf of the forest department. When people appeal to the Public Works Department officials to repair the Mancholai Hill Road, they ignore their responsibility by pointing the finger at the Forest Department. When approached by the forest department they ignore the responsibility of tea estate management. The people who demanded basic facilities are left helpless as they are constantly being waved away. The district administration, which should have paved the road and repaired the traffic, is making fun of the suffering of the people despite repeated petitions.

Therefore, on behalf of the tamil Nadu party, I urge the tamil Nadu government to repair the mountain road on a war-time basis and fix the bus facility as soon as possible to solve the woes of the people of Mancholai.
