Reportedly according to the information given in the Parliament, Rs.1906.59 crore should be released by the central government out of the allocation for tamil Nadu under the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Scheme. In the Parliamentary Lok Sabha, "Is there a plan to increase the amount fixed per house in the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Project in line with inflation?"; How much funds have been allocated to tamil Nadu under this scheme from 2015-16 to 2021-22?” These questions were raised by Villupuram mp Ravikumar.

Meanwhile the minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Kaushal kishore said, “The government of india provides two specific amounts as central assistance. Rs 1 lakh per house under ISSR, Rs 1.5 lakh per house under AHP and the remaining amount is provided by the state governments and beneficiaries under the PMU. The scheme, which was till 2022, has now been extended till 2024. The government has no plans to increase the unit cost of housing.” He said.

Ravikumar M.P. He said, "In the information provided by the minister, it is seen that only half of the allocated amount has been released over the years. In 2015-16, Rs 548.21 crore was allocated and only Rs 129.35 crore was released. In 2016-17, the allocation was Rs.1,424.58 crore and the release was Rs.637.75 crore. In 2017-18 the allocation was Rs.1,723.11 crore, but the release was only Rs.1,194.00 crore. In 2018-19, the allocation for tamil Nadu was Rs.2084.89 crore and the release was only Rs.1408.78 crore.

The total allocation to tamil Nadu for the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Scheme (PMAY-U) during these four years is Rs.5780.79 crores. Out of which only Rs.3366.88 crore was released. The Union government has not released Rs.2413.91 crore out of the allocation. 189.46 crores in 2019-20 and Rs.103.60 crores in 2020-21 due to continued insistence by the government of tamil Nadu; 214.26 crore in 2021-22 has also been waived by the Union Government. The union government still owes tamil Nadu Rs.1906.59 crore. Due to such arrears, the construction of allotted houses cannot be completed.” He said.
