CM Shinde gives big relief to farmers, Maharashtra govt will provide assistance

Maharashtra government will provide relief to the farmers facing crop failure due to unseasonal rain and

hailstorm in the last few days. chief minister Eknath Shinde said on wednesday that financial assistance will be

provided for up to three hectares of land. Separately, a cabinet minister said the amount of assistance would be

decided after the crop damage assessment process is completed. Citing preliminary estimates, Shinde said on

Monday that unseasonal rain and hailstorm over the past weekend had damaged crops on about one lakh

hectares of land in various parts of maharashtra, including Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.

What did cm Shinde say?

During the state cabinet meeting on wednesday, Shinde directed officials of the revenue and agriculture

departments to survey the crop losses in a coordinated manner. The chief minister told reporters after the

meeting, “The survey is being done on a war footing. A decision has been taken to provide relief up to three


hectares. The government is committed to standing with the farmers.” He said that all the district guardian

ministers should go to the affected farmers along with officials of the concerned departments.

Uddhav Thackeray's target

At a time when farmers in maharashtra are grappling with crop damage due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm,

Shiv Sena (UBT) president uddhav thackeray launched a scathing attack on chief minister Eknath Shinde

over his visit to telangana to campaign for the BJP. thackeray said if Shinde, who heads the rival Sena faction,

was campaigning in another state while his own state and farmers were in trouble, then he was useless in

running the government.
