No more violence in Manipur: Amit Shah to establish peace!?

Home minister amit shah has said that the prime minister Modi-led government is making unremitting efforts to establish permanent peace in the northeastern state. Manipur-based armed group United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has signed a peace accord with Union home minister amit Shah. amit shah has announced that they have promised to give up violence.


Amit Shah termed this move as a milestone in establishing peace in Manipur and said that the government led by prime minister Modi is making relentless efforts to establish peace permanently in the northeastern state. "The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) signed a peace accord in delhi today. The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), an archaic armed group from the valley region of Manipur, has agreed to renounce violence and join the mainstream. I welcome them to this democratic process," amit shah tweeted.


"The peace agreement signed today by the government of india and the government of Manipur with the UNLF marks the end of sixty years of armed conflict," he said. "This is a major achievement that embodies PM Modi's vision for inclusive growth. A bright future awaits the youth of Northeast india," he said in a tweet.


The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and its armed wing, the Manipur People's army (MPA), are among the Meitei armed groups in Manipur. Already, due to the ongoing violence in the North-Eastern state, several small arms systems have been announced to be banned. Since May 3 this year, several incidents of violence have taken place between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur. More than 180 of them have been killed.


In this case, the home Minister's announcement has been made a few days after the chief minister of Manipur, Brain Singh, said that he was negotiating with the armed groups on behalf of the government. About 53% of Manipur's population consists of the Meidi community. They mostly live in the Imphal valley region. 40 percent belong to Nagas and Kuki tribes. They mostly live in hilly areas.
