Caste based economic survey in bihar has made shocking revelations regarding government jobs. In a

survey conducted by the General Administration Department, it has been said that only 1.27 percent people

in bihar have government jobs. If seen in terms of numbers, 20.49 lakh people have government jobs in

entire Bihar. The upper castes have the highest dominance in government jobs. 6.41 lakh people of upper

caste are in government jobs. In the field of government jobs, the number of backward class people is 6.21

lakh, while 4.61 lakh people of extremely backward class have government jobs. Dalits also have about 12

percent share in government jobs in Bihar. According to government figures, 2.92 lakh Dalits are working

in government jobs. This number among tribals is around 30 thousand.

Who benefits from OBC reservation?

The number of OBC castes in bihar is 30 and according to the survey, the population of these castes is 27

percent. Till now, OBC castes in bihar used to get 12 percent reservation, which was third after 18 for EBC

and 16 for SC. According to government figures, 6.21 thousand OBCs are currently in government jobs.

These include Yadav (2.90 lakh), Kushwaha (1.21 lakh), Kurmi (1.17 lakh), Baniya (59 thousand),

Surajpuri Muslim (15 thousand), Bhant (5100) and Malik Muslim (1552). If seen in percentage terms, the

share of Yadavs in the total jobs of the OBC community is around 45 percent. About 20-20 percent are

Kurmi and Koeri. The share of tradesmen in jobs received from OBC category is 10 percent.

Of the total government jobs held by OBC castes, these 4 castes have 90 percent jobs. However, these

castes have their own arguments regarding participation in government jobs. Yadav population in bihar is

14 percent, out of which 35 percent are poor. At present the participation of Yadavs in government jobs is

less than 2 percent. people of Yadav community say that out of 15 percent upper caste, only 25 percent are

poor, who should have got 4 percent reservation according to the formula, but 10 percent reservation is

being given.

Whereas out of 14 percent of the Yadav community, 35 percent are poor, but only 2 percent of the

community is getting the benefit of reservation. In bihar, the Yadav community has demanded a separate

10 percent reservation like the EWS quota. According to bihar government, 10 percent of the people of

Yadav community have hut houses. 7 percent Koeri is also included in this category.
