Telangana Hyderabad - Fly in Osmania biscuit prompts fine and stock seizure
Vinay Vangala, a city resident, discovered the fly in a packet of cookies he had bought on september 2. When he discovered the fly lodged in one of the biscuits, he had eaten over half of the packet. He immediately complained to the food safety commissioner and the local food inspector.
Following the hearing of an adjudication case earlier this week in the Rangareddy district collectorate, a decision was made. On the package, the Jalpally-based producer has a certificate from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of india (FSSAI). Nearly two months after an Osmania biscuit client found a fly baked into his package, S. Rudra Foods, the maker, was fined and had their stock confiscated. The assistant food controller for the ghmc attested to the fact that S. Rudra Foods was fined Rs. 15,000 and that 80,000 worth of merchandise was taken from the location.
