Mahisha Surasamharam, the pinnacle event of dussehra festival at Kulasekaranpattinam Muttharaman temple, was held today at the temple beach. Next to the world famous dussehra festival in Mysore, Kulasekaranpattinam Mutharamman temple holds the dussehra festival every year. This year's dussehra festival started with flag hoisting on 15th. Every night during the 10-day dussehra festival, the goddess gets up in a different vehicle and roams the streets and blesses the devotees. The culmination of the festival, the 10th Thirunal Mahisha Surasamharam was held on the temple beach at midnight today. Lakhs of devotees not only from tamil Nadu but also from outside the state participated in this. Devotees wearing garlands wearing garlands and wearing different roles including kali, Amman, Raja, Rani, Kuravan, Kurathi etc went from house to house individually and in groups and fulfilled their wishes by paying the offerings received in the temple bank today. On the occasion of Mahisha Surasamharam, a special abhishekam and decorative Deeparathan was performed for the goddess. After that at 12 midnight Amman Mahisha got up in Suramartini Kolam and came to the beach. Amman killed Mahishasura who was first with her data-face. Then he killed the one who took the form of a lion. Next he killed Suya, who had the data-face of a buffalo, and finally Mahisasura, who changed into the form of a rooster. Lakhs of devotees worshiped the goddess with chants of Om kali and jai Kali. The temple beach was flooded with devotees. For this, 3000 policemen were engaged in security work. They were also monitoring 70 surveillance cameras in 30 places. About 200 special buses were run for the convenience of devotees.
