Not a good news...Vanathi Srinivasan warns the government..!?
There are reports that the Managing director of Aavin has written a letter to the General Managers of 27 Milk Producers Co-operative Societies saying, "Addition of new members to Milk Producers' Co-operative Societies". There will be scarcity of milk products like curd, butter, ghee and the price will go up. Private milk companies will take advantage of this opportunity to raise the prices and the poor and middle class people will be affected very badly. As milk and milk products are an essential need of the people and essential for children, tamilnadu government should pay more attention to this. There are various reasons for the decline in milk procurement. Socially and economically oppressed people mostly keep dairy cows. It is on them that milk producers' cooperative societies function. But, cow farming has become more challenging now.
Cattle breeders are socially and economically oppressed so they have no grazing land. Formerly, the villages used to have large areas of uncultivated waste land. Anyone can graze goats and cows there. Now even barren lands in villages have become houses. Due to various reasons including encroachment, the government has been using the alienated lands for grazing. The prices of fodder and hay are increasing. But, milk alone is not getting a fair price. Due to this many people are not interested in rearing cows. Providing dairy cows at a subsidized price, identifying government surplus lands in villages and converting them into pastures, fodder at subsidized prices and increasing the purchase price of milk will increase the purchase of milk. Poor people who rear cows will also benefit. Therefore, Vanathi Srinivasan has insisted that chief minister M.K.Stalin should intervene in this matter and take measures to increase the purchase of milk.
