Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, the military branch of Hamas, has freed two US citizens who were being held captive "for humanitarian reasons". The development is a result of attempts by qatar to mediate, according to a statement released on friday by the brigade's spokesman, Abu Ubaida. The mother-daughter pair were taken to an army facility in central Israel, "where their families are eager to greet them," according to Israel's foreign ministry after the two were turned over to the red Cross.
According to a CNN story, their diplomatic source hinted that the release of those American citizens included no trade. A team from the US embassy was on its route to retrieve the two ladies, who had been detained by Hamas since the october 7 bombings in Israel, according to a later confirmation by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on X.
The hostages, now released, are 59-year-old Judith Raanan and her 18-year-old daughter Natalie Raanan. The Hamas Group said they have released the citizens "for humanitarian reasons, and to prove to the American people and the world that claims made by (President Joe) Biden and his "fascist administration are false and baseless".
