Marxist Communist leader Anathalavatam Anandan passed away. He is 86 years old. Marxist Communist leader and former mla Ananthalavattam Anandan passed away. He was 86. He passed away in thiruvananthapuram after undergoing treatment for ill health. Ananthalavattam Anandhan is currently the State President and National Vice President of CITU. Born on 22nd april 1937 in thiruvananthapuram, he completed his schooling at Chirankeesh Chitravilasam and Kadakavur SSPP. He started public service while still a student in the 1950s and was active in rope workers' organization activities. He became a member of the Executive Committee of the Travancore Coir Workers' Union in 1957 and was the General Secretary of the Travancore Coir Workers' Union from 1960 to 1971. From 1971 he was the office-bearer of the kerala Coir Workers' Union (CITU). Ananthalavattam Anandan has served as CPM party Branch Secretary, Chirankeesu district Committee Secretary and Attingal Area Committee Secretary. A member of the CPM thiruvananthapuram district committee in 1971, he was imprisoned under the MISA Emergency Act. From 1979 to 1984 he was the President of Sirainkeel Panchayat, in 1985 he was a member of the CPM State Committee and then as a member of the State Secretariat.


He entered the Legislative assembly for the first time in 1987 from Attingal constituency. In 1996, Attingal again became the people's representative, defeating Vakkam Purushothaman by a margin of 1016 votes. In 2006, he was re-elected to the assembly by defeating C. Mohanachandran by a margin of 11208 votes in Attingal constituency.
