Online Courier Scam in Chennai: People Beware..!?

Police has issued a warning to the public regarding online courier fraud in Chennai. In today's IT era, cyber crimes are on the rise. Accordingly, the police have issued a warning to the public regarding online courier fraud in Chennai. According to the police, an online scam called FedEx Courier Calls is being carried out and the people behind this scam are impersonating FedEx Courier service Company employees and engaging in the scam. Scammers claim to be speaking from a FedEx courier and obtain public bank account details. Also, this fraud takes place by transferring money to some other accounts. According to the police, the fraud takes place by sharing bank account details and transferring money to some other accounts. Here's how this scam works:


** They call the targeted person on their cell phone and claim that a parcel containing illegal goods such as cocaine or high-value jewelry has been sent to them.


** Later, someone contacts the person claiming to be a police officer. They also said that the person should be present through Skype for further investigation.


** The person is told to keep the matter confidential.


** Subsequently, they send CBI, RBI documents, arrest warrant in the name of a particular person, etc


** Also, fraudsters claim that the person's Aadhaar number is being used for money laundering.


** After that, they collect the person's bank account and Aadhaar card details and ask them to transfer the money to the fraudsters' bank accounts, promising to return the money after RBI verification. Believing it to be genuine, people hand over their bank documents to fraudsters and transfer money to specific accounts. By this the public is being cheated. chennai police has advised the public to be aware of this scam. In this regard, the public is advised to contact the Cybercrime Helpline number 1930 or register their complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in if they have any complaints.
