Telangana BRS urges ECI to remove Symbols identical to 'CAR'
Soma bharath Kumar, general secretary of the BRS party, and representatives Manne srinivas Reddy and venkatesh Neta served as the delegation's leaders. In a submission to the ECI, the BRS claimed that the Commission had previously taken into account similar requests from the party and removed a number of identical symbols from the list of free symbols, including Hat, iron Box, Truck, auto Rickshaw, Road Roller, and others. They also emphasised how several unrecognised parties used emblems similar to the "Car" sign and hurt the party's base of supporters.
The BRS leaders expressed alarm and vehement opposition to the Yuga thulasi Party's use of the Road Roller emblem in Telangana. They were concerned that the resemblances between the car, the Road Roller, and other such symbols, as well as their data-size on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), might lead to misunderstanding among voters, particularly those from rural backgrounds, including elderly and uneducated voters.
The BRS identified several occasions when voters became confused and selected the incorrect symbol instead of the car symbol, as evidenced by the amount of votes cast in prior elections for similar symbols like road roller. Votes that were cast for candidates running on the Road Roller symbol instead of the car symbol caused the BRS candidates to lose elections in several instances.
The BRS officials also mentioned other symbols, such as the Camera, chapati Roller, Doli, Soap Dish, Television, Sewing Machine, and Ship, which, given their data-size on the EVMs, are comparable to the car emblem. They requested the ECI to ensure a free and fair election by removing these symbols from the list of permitted emblems.
