On Saturday, here in the city, Superintendent of police (SP) Pulla Karunakar announced that Adavi Mutharam police had detained five people for allegedly supporting the cpi Maoists, who are now illegal. Speaking during a news conference, he said that Sub-Inspector D sudhakar was conducting a regular vehicle check close to the Yamanpally Centre with the assistance of police officers and a group from the Central Reserve police Force (CRPF). They stopped three bikes with a total of five people inside during this operation.

A cache of materials, including five mobile phones, three gelatin sticks, three detonators, Maoist literature and brochures, and Rs. 21,630 cash, were discovered after careful scrutiny of the people and the motorcycles. Durishetti Sailu (57), Bommana Kumar (32), Merugu Swamy (50), Nimmrajula Shankar (55), and Mudu shiva Kumar (25), are the four people who have been detained. They are all from peddapalli district, namely Palakurthy Mandal.

Further inquiry has shown that between 1988 and 1996, Durishetti Sailu, a former Maoist sympathiser, was connected to the People's war Group (PWG) Devanna Dalam. He eventually turned himself in in 1996. Recent data, however, indicates that he attempted to re-establish communication with Maoist organisations. Sailu had been in touch with Damodar, also known as Bade Chokka Rao, and other Maoist party officials.
