Telangana Tops with 68.3 percent Surplus Water

Telangana turned out to be the only State better equipped in terms of water availability supported by acceptable storage levels in its sources, whereas the majority of the States in the country are struggling to find water since their reservoirs are rapidly depleting. Despite all the major projects in the krishna basin receiving zero inflows and telangana State enjoying comfort in its water availability in september, this is due to nine years of attention to the development and efficient management of water resources.

Before the arrival of the monsoon, the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme was a major contributor to the full filling of numerous empty reservoirs. It assisted in protecting a significant portion of the State from the whims of the monsoon, with the exception of a few pockets within the krishna river projects like srisailam and Nagarjunasagar.

With the exception of five States, all of the 21 States for whom the Central Water Commission (CWC) publishes reservoir statistics have deficits. telangana is the most advantageous of the five States, with a surplus of 68.3%. It is far superior to gujarat and Uttarakhand, which both had marginal surpluses of 14.6% and 12.1%, respectively.

The surplus in the States of himachal pradesh and Nagaland is 6.0% and 2.7%, respectively. With a deficit of 77.1%, bihar tops the list of deficit States, followed by tamil Nadu and West bengal with deficits of 57.4% and -44.3 percent, respectively. By september 14, Andhra Pradesh's reservoir levels were decreased by 44 percent from their 10-year average. Almost all the important States are likely to end up with a dry monsoon having a bearing on the Kharif crops as well as the Rabi.
