Telangana - Karkhana road is Hyderabad's most congested stretch
Researchers from BITS Pilani, hyderabad, and NIT Durgapur performed a collaborative study that revealed the Karkhana road to be the most congested section in the city during rush hour.
The study results have been published in the Journal of Transportation Engineering Systems under the heading "Traffic congestion assessment tool for urban roads based on traffic and geometric characteristics: A Case of hyderabad, India." A travel time congestion index (TTCI), created by the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE), may measure the degree of traffic congestion along different corridors and assist in determining the reason.

TTCI was created to quantify traffic congestion on the urban road network by using traffic geometry and land use data. The generated index may be used by different parties involved in town planning and traffic management to create mitigation strategies that greatly reduce traffic congestion and enhance urban transport systems. According to the study, having grade-separated junctions significantly lessens traffic congestion.
The study team included naveed Farooz Marazi, Prasanta K. Sahu, Subhashree Panda, and Siddardha Koramati (all from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad), as well as Bandhan Bandhu Majumdar (NIT Durgapur).
"The first research of this sort has been developed for the traffic conditions in India. The results are consistent with the field circumstances, according to Assistant professor Majumdar.
The research also suggests assessing the level of service of the route and designing cordon lines for delaminating congested zones using TTCI values. It was discovered that traffic signs and information posted before junctions and detours lessen the likelihood of motorist confusion and thereby ease traffic congestion. To minimize the number of private vehicles inside city data-borders, which is another practical solution to the congestion issue, public transit systems must be upgraded. Truck and trailer movements should be limited during rush hours as they might generate speed variations owing to an event known as 'elephant racing'.

To lessen the amount of vehicles on the roadways, congestion pricing is encouraged for the core business district. According to the study, which was conducted in partnership with Cardiff and New Castle Universities in the UK and was backed by the hyderabad traffic police, installing grades and grade-separated pedestrian crossings next to hospitals, schools, and government buildings may significantly reduce traffic congestion.
