G20 Summit: Climate Change and Indian Efforts...
india is not only at the center of world diplomacy but is also playing an influential role in creating an
environment of equitable international cooperation by involving the developing and global South countries.
After ensuring its important participation in the BRICS Summit last month in developing the format for its
expansion and new working style, it is ready with full commitment to host the G20 Presidential Meeting
starting in the next few days. This is a golden opportunity for india to strengthen its collective commitment
to a just, rational global energy transition by engaging key countries in the context of climate crisis along
with key international issues, as well as sustainable development. And can contribute towards shaping
international cooperation.
Last month, the fifteenth meeting of BRICS, an organization of representative countries of the Global South,
was held in which india had an important participation. In whose manifesto a consensus was reached on the
necessary and collective initiative for the climate crisis. In which a smooth, easy and long-term low carbon
and low emission based economic system transformation was advocated according to the principle of equal
but differentiated responsibilities according to capabilities (CBDR-RC). india takes over the chairmanship of
the world's 20 largest economies, which together emit 75-80% of global greenhouse gas emissions, in
December 2022. At the same time, india highlighted the climate crisis among other major issues, with Indian
Prime minister Narendra Modi saying that "the challenges of climate change, terrorism, and pandemics
cannot be solved by fighting against each other, but only by working together." Issues like climate change
and environmental crisis can be expected to feature prominently in the format of the upcoming G20 summit.
