Residents said that because of increased building activity upstream in the Pragathi nagar neighborhood, water exits were shut and all rainwater was carried into this nala, which also became much narrower. Civic officials assessed the nala two months ago and promised to start expansion construction, but nothing occurred.

When word of Mithun's disappearance spread, locals and relatives from Suryapet and other parts of the city congregated at Spatial Gardenia. At the same time, Turkapalli Lake was crowded with residents of the nearby Rajiv Gruhakalpa complex. Residents claimed that despite their frequent complaints to authority, their cries went unheeded. They claimed that this is the case every time it rains, and they live in terror. Every time it rains, we develop our own backup plans, but the authorities never help or even respond, according to resident reddy Satish.

This nala would experience these huge floods until there is some control over the irregular and illegal development activities upstream towards the Pragathi nagar Kaman region. In some places, the thin nala is underground, but in the majority of them, it is exposed and unprotected, putting the locals at risk every day.

The villagers asserted that if there had been an obstruction somewhere in the nala, Mithun's body may have become trapped there, making it nearly difficult to locate it. They urged that action be taken right once to solve the nala issue.
