Ministry of External Affairs issues advisory against misuse of passports
In an effort to stop the rising abuse of passports as platforms for advertising, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a strong warning. The Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad, condemned the practise of travel brokers defacing indian passport covers with their agency or business labels as disturbing in a statement released here on Thursday. The practise violates both union government norms for maintaining passports and the sacredness of the document itself.
"The indian passport's outer cover featured the Ashoka Chakra as the country's crest and has a number of security measures intended to guarantee its integrity and validity. By using advertising stickers or adhesives, an agent risks hiding the national anthem, compromising security measures, and preventing authenticity verification. It might also make it harder to determine whether the passports are legitimate, which could present problems for indian passengers at data-border points, according to the statement.
The Ministry of External Affairs has tightened the guidelines for the selection of partner visas and consular services to the indian diaspora and international tourists in an effort to reduce predatory pricing. In order to improve India's reputation and image, the MEA is dedicated to providing services to both foreigners travelling to india and indians who are relocating abroad.
