At present, internet frauds are increasing rapidly across the country and Union Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnav has issued an action announcement today to prevent this. 52 lakh mobile connections:
Along with this, the Union minister said that the government has closed 52 lakh mobile connections. The names of 67,000 dealers have been blacklisted. Since May 2023, 300 FIRs have been registered against SIM card vendors.
10 lakh fine:
Ashwini Vaishnav has said that whatsapp has blocked around 66,000 accounts involved in fraudulent activities. He said that now we have made police verification of SIM card seller mandatory to prevent fraud. Traders who violate the rules will be fined Rs 10 lakh.
Time for verification:
The minister said that there are 10 lakh SIM dealers and they will be given ample time for police verification. He said that the telecommunication department has also stopped the service of providing 'connection' altogether. Instead, a new concept of business linkages will be introduced.
KYC is required:
Apart from this, KYC of businesses and KYC of the person taking the SIM will also be done, Vaishnav said. KYC helps verify the identity and address of a company or investor.
