Special Puja of Farmers to Bairedev for rain..!?
Workers from North india including orissa, Uttar Pradesh, jharkhand were arriving in more than 150 boats, including trawlers and Perseen, at the Baitakhola port of Karwar in Uttara kannada district. During the fishing ban in the months of june and July, the workers who went to the town used to return to work before the beginning of fishing. But this time, despite the start of August, not many workers from orissa have arrived for work. Due to this, the boats that were going for deep sea fishing are standing in the harbor without workers. Deep sea fishing boats require 10 to 35 workers. Especially since trawlers spend weeks fishing at sea and travel long distances, more labor is needed to set the nets and raise the nets when the fish fall. Therefore most of the boats have not gone fishing as it is not possible to carry out fishing without labour.
Owners of boats have taken loans and repaired boats and nets to go fishing. Now, since the laborers are not arriving, the boats have to be stopped at the port, and the fishermen have to bear the loss. The opinion of the fishermen is that if the government gives relief to the farmers in their distress, it will help those who rely on fishing.
