The congress party has started making plans for a declaration about the Old City of hyderabad before of the telangana assembly elections. Addressing the difficulties Old City people encounter is the goal of this proclamation.
In a press release issued on Monday, sameer Waliullah, the president of the hyderabad District congress Committee, said that the party has already started the process of identifying the issues that the people living in Hyderabad's Old City are dealing with. He added that they are looking into recently completed surveys to understand the difficulties and living conditions of the population.
Remedies to be incorporated in election manifesto for telangana assembly polls
Additionally, they intend to work with NGOs and social activists to develop long-lasting solutions. The State leadership will be informed of the findings, and the proposed solutions will be put into the electoral platform. Waliullah stated the intention to create a special declaration for Hyderabad's Old City, similar to the ones created for farmers, young people, and women. He emphadata-sized the seriousness of the problem by presenting worrisome data from recent NGO polls.
Surveys highlight the living conditions of Muslims
According to the studies, poverty stands out as a major problem, especially for the Muslim community living in the city's slums. Sixty percent of the 5.8 million people who live in the Old City do so in slum regions. Seventy-four percent of them are tenants, and only 26 percent of them are homeowners. Surprisingly, 38% of people do not have white ration cards, and in 37% of homes, women are the only source of income.
With approximately 15% of kids dropping out of school between the fifth and tenth grades, the educational situation is extremely troubling. Thirty-three percent of the state's chronic ailments are caused by hyderabad, with the Old City alone responsible for more than fifty percent of these cases.
Sixty-five percent of families grappling with debts
The area is also plagued by financial problems, with 65% of families dealing with debt and exorbitant interest rates. To pay for necessities like food and medicine, many turn to private lenders for money. These lenders have interest rates that range from 10 to twenty-one percent.
Alcoholism comes up as a significant problem in the Old City, in addition to poverty. In certain cases, it greatly exacerbates marital strife. The question of "why does the situation of the Old City continue to lag behind even after the years of the formation of Telangana" goes unanswered as telangana gears up for assembly elections in the coming months. The BRS government was criticised by sameer Waliullah for encouraging drunkenness by indiscriminately approving the opening of wine outlets.
